Check Point 2 - Handbag Shoot 2

As previously mentioned, my initial idea for the handbag shoot has changed to allow me to play with more of an editorial story feel to my shots. With this in mind I drew up my story boards to see how I wanted to play out the story.

So with my rudimentary story boards I headed out to the Canberra Theatre and proceeded to replicate my ideas onto film (or sensor in this case).

When casting for this shoot my model had blond hair so it came as a bit of a surprise to have a brunette. This turned out well for the Canberra Theatre shots but her hair does get lost a bit among the trees. Blond hair would have added some welcome separation. Saying that of course, the shots worked out well and I am happy to submit these shots for my Check point 2 images. A couple notes here, two of the images are composites and spot the subtle hand cuffs (more noticeable on full size image).

My mate took a snap of the basic lighting setup while I was shooting away. This is one of the shots.

I'm using 2 portable Elinchrom ranger heads on the background and another 2 rangers on the model. One high as the main and the other just out of shot next to the camera as a fill.

After the discussion today regarding a couple images and Silvia's coments regarding the shoes dominating one of the shots I went to the editing table and had a look at how to remedy the image. I decided to change the shoes to black in colour so as not to compete with the handbag. I think that has solved that issue. I also took on board what class mates were saying about the gaps in the blinds being distracting and the crooked horizon. As the preview version wasn't touched I could edit the images armed with a list of what to do.

Handbag Shoot

I had organised a handbag shoot for today yet the weather thought otherwise. I continued on never the less and changed it into a practice shoot with a serious flavour. This shoot was a portfolio building excersise and of course, much needed practice.

I had a great Hair Stylist and Make Up Artist on this one and I'm very happy with the results. Now to edit them...

A sample for now. The next shoot will need to have some form of quirkiness to it. I understand the need to perfect the serious side of advertising photography yet I crave for something 'different'. As Silvia rightly pointed out, the reason my abducted shoot went well last year was that it was so absurd that it made people stop and look.

After Silvia's comments on having a look at how I use the handbags in my advertising series It has certainly got me thinking on various ways to add some interest in my shots. Maybe have a handbag being used to hide the gentlemans privates whilst the lady is waiting outside the apartment?

A handbag as an umbrella (add a handle to the inside to make it like it was an intended purpose)?
